Using a nationally representative survey (N = 1,322), we asked respondents to attribute blame for food waste to six key stakeholders: farmers, food manufacturers, grocery stores, government policies, individuals, and restaurants and food service. Respondents blamed individuals most and farmers least. However, respondents who practiced food waste mitigation strategies blamed individuals less.

This article describes consumer spending on plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs) and discusses the potential role of policy in shaping the alternative protein market. We use household product purchasing data to examine spending on PBMAs. We find that households do not spend consistently on PBMAs, and traditional meat spending is unaffected.
