Who is Being Blamed for Food Waste

Using a nationally representative survey (N = 1,322), we asked respondents to attribute blame for food waste to six key stakeholders: farmers, food manufacturers, grocery stores, government policies, individuals, and restaurants and food service. Respondents blamed individuals most and farmers least. However, respondents who practiced food waste mitigation strategies blamed individuals less.

Consumer Spending on Plant-Based Meat Alternatives

This article describes consumer spending on plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs) and discusses the potential role of policy in shaping the alternative protein market. We use household product purchasing data to examine spending on PBMAs. We find that households do not spend consistently on PBMAs, and traditional meat spending is unaffected.

From Contamination to Climate Change: Emerging Risks at the Nexus of Food Safety and Nutrition, and their Implications for Public Health

Understanding the interconnections between food safety and nutrition will be key to navigating public health challenges caused by emerging food system risks. This discussion introduces several contemporary issues at this intersection including individual food safety risk and diet-related disease, food fraud, and linkages between climate change, food safety, and nutrition.
